TWO OF THE USUAL CANALS are closed through lack of water.

These are the Erewash and Huddersfield Narrow canals, that both suffer pounds being closed, Keith Gudgin reports.

The Erewash is closed at Stanton Lock 65 and Hallam Fields Lock 66.

This navigation was last closed on the 29th May, at locks 67 and 68.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal

The low water levels have closed the Huddersfield Narrow again, this time at Lock 14 East.

This  is a rather long pound and so will take some filling. The navigation on this canal was last closed through lack of water on the 3rd June—just six days ago at Lock 25E.

Peak Forest Canal

There is a stoppage between Locks 1 and 16 on the Marple Flight of the Peak Forest Canal.

This, we are told, this is the result following damage to the balance beam on the gate of Lock 10.

This was inspected yesterday, Tuesday, with further inspection today.
