Locks need proper cill warnings

WE CAN really feel for the people who lost their first time narrowboat in one of Bosley Locks, but cannot help but blaming Canal & River Trust for not making the dangers of the cills more prominent, writes James Henry.

Not to sensible

I do not of course know the reason for first timers to take to the waterways with a 70ft boat but it doesn't seem too sensible, as they are the devil to keep clear of cills and also to manœuvre in wind.

I once helped on a 70 footer and it was a nightmare, as all too often we were inches off the cill and occasionally on it.
