THE NEW LANE Swing Bridge (31) on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has finally had its barrier delivered.
This was damaged on the 24th January with the bridge set in its closed position, Keith Gudgin reported.
Though it was taken away for repair, and fairly quickly done, for some unknown reason transport of the barrier could not be undertaken, that dragged on for weeks.
Navigation reopened
No reason was given why it could not be delivered, but now it has been with the navigation reopened.
There was a suggestion a while ago to install cameras at bridges with barriers, as the culprits are simply getting away with it, not having to pay for the damage that has to be paid for by the trust.
That was a good idea and would surely quickly pay for itself and save some money. But it was not done.
