THE PLANS HAVE been passed for a new footbridge over the Erewash in Long Eaton.

Even though the completion date has been exceeded, Janet Friend reports.

The funding deadline of the Government's Town Deal was for the bridge to be finished by February next year, but delays mean that this cannot be achieved.

Approved

The bridge plan had been approved by the council in June last year and would see the replacement of the existing crossing over the Erewash Canal which was built in 1913 and connects the town with West Park, though it still  has a 10 years lifespan remaining.

The bridge is still set to be completed even after the deadline was exceeded, with Erewash Borough Council having detailed a scheme to build a new bridge over the canal, including a canal-side terrace, to be finished by May 2026, though it may have to be facilitated by pre-payment of project funds to an escrow account or similar'.
