AFTER THREE months of dedicated effort, Canal & River Trust tells, the Loco Lift Bridge on the Huddersfield Broad Canal has been repaired.

But we agree with our Keith Gudgin, when he remarks—more like months of incompetence!

Four months

As it broke on the 7th of November, and still out of action in December, January, February and now late March it is hardly three months—it is over four!

Broad LiftIt certainly was incompetence, as time and time again it was related that the stoppage was owing to first its motor being the fault, but it wasn't, as it came back as being perfectly sound!

Then those contractors told it was the clutch, so off they went to Germany to source one, and neither did that solve the problem!

So it was decided it was the electronics, but alas it was not the electronics either!

So come December it was admitted they did not know what the fault was, and after that, until now, we were told that they were still waiting parts.

Not telling

But this time, strangely, not telling what the parts were.

And it goes on month after month until now, out of the blue, comes the news that it is repaired—but again, strangely, not how!

Yet this is what the trust decide is 'months of dedicated effort'.  Though even getting the number of months wrong—managing to lose one!
