A BOAT STEERER ON THE BROADS took a risk at getting under a bridge.
But alas it failed, Janet Friend reports.
'Abandon ship'
The cruiser with four on board had no alternative but to 'abandon ship' as the attempt at pulling the boat out from under the St Olaves bridge, on the Waveney failed.
It was a rising tide together with a strong wind that foiled the attempt at rescuing the hire boat, so the four, together with their dog had to be rescued from the boat.
It was the coastguard. that made the rescue bringing the occupants to safety onto the shore. (Image by courtesy of Alan Reeves.)
Pulled to safety
Then waiting until the tide turned, the family of four and their dog were united with their hire boat as it was pulled to safety from under the bridge.
Then as the cruiser was in no way damaged, they continued their holiday, no doubt taking great care of bridges.
