IT WAS IN THE 2nd June that Vazons Rail Bridge at Keadby failed, closing access to and from the Tidal Trent.

This was  due to equipment failure, Keith Gudgin reports.

KeadbySliding2Subsequent attempts at a repair failed with Network Rail informing on the 7th that it was still not repaired, and has remained so ever since.

Problem for boaters

The problem for boaters is that it is closed in the position for rail traffic and cannot be moved, therefore cutting off the navigation.

This particular bridge is a somewhat unusual sliding bridge that is frequently out of action even after its major overall in February of last year. It stopping working on the following 18th May!

What makes it worse is that now there is no access to or from the northern canals, the Bridgewater Canal being closed by a breach that the company have little intention of repairing and the stoppage/s on the Macclesfield Canal.
