SCOTHMANS LOCK 72 on the Rochdale Canal due to damage to the offside gate quoin board and masonry.

This prevented the water from fully equalising so the lock was closed on the 6th June, Keith Gudgin reports.

ScothmansRochdal72Six stoppages in June

This was one of the six stoppages on the Rochdale Canal in June, with this one hoping to be repaired by Wednesday 16th July.

At the moment we are told that repairs have been made to the head gate, quoin boards as well as replacing one of the missing cill caps.

The trust's teams have also started work replacing the tail gate quoin boards and the additional missing cill caps with the boarding out of the tail gates being left to carry out.

Become detached

When the quoin board that had become detached was to be replaced it was discovered that the other quoin boards were showing signs of deterioration.

It further highlighted why the lock would not equalise for when the lock was dewatered both cills were missing their caps.
