IT WAS BEES THAT closed Thurmaston Lock on Leicester Section with a swarm in a nearby tree.

But they have started to leave, Keith Gudgin reports.

With the swarm being on a tree so close to the lock the trust is telling that whilst narrowboats can get past, widebeams will struggle and are advised to take care.

No beekeeper

There was hope to get a beekeeper to handle the situation to get rid of the bees, but none has been found.

The lock was closed when the swarm was first discovered, but it was then realised boats could still use the lock by taking care not to disturb it in any way.

Once the bees have gone the tree will be removed.
