We have been on the Macclesfield and Peak Forest canals since the failed repair at Bosley breached in March, writes Jon Molyneux.

I was a bit nonplussed like Keith Gudgin as to why Bugsworth Basin was to be shut as it was at the end of a very long pound.

I think the reason is probably because the basin leaks considerably and I don't think the CaRT knows how to fix it.

Also of concern is Strines Aqueduct on the Peak Forest which has a considerable leak. I have reported this, apparently it is being 'monitored'. There is also water leaving the canal at the basin at Whaley Bridge.

I think as soon as water enters the canal it is lost from one leak or another.
