A WINDOW OF PASSAGE, on locks 1 to 4 on the Rochdale Canal is not much use.
This will be on Mondays only from 9am to 2pm when the navigation will be opened, Keith Gudgin reports.
However, the continuation of the Rochdale Canal is closed from locks 5 to 16 owing to lack of water. As is the section through Manchester, with other stoppages too.
Rather pointless
So the passage that is through Tuel Tunnel (pictured in better days!) is rather pointless as boats are hardly going to go through the tunnel to then be stopped after just four locks through lack of water.
The fact is that all the northern navigable waterways are closed at one point or in multiple areas as is the Leeds & Liverpool with every flight closed by the water situation.
