ONCE AGAIN THE Royal Oak Swing Bridge on the Macclesfield Canal is out of action.
It is usually the barriers that get hit by vehicles that closes the bridge, but this time we are told it is 'possible vandals'. That is a new one!
Suspected vandalism
However we are told that suspected vandalism to the lock mechanism on Royal Oak Swing Bridge 49 has caused its failure.
And so it is temporarily closed to navigation.
Contractors have been instructed to attend today, Wednesday to ascertain the problem.
Latest Wednesday: Following the successful repair to the lock mechanism, navigation has now reopened.
