THE breach at Whitchurch not only left Hurleston Reservoir short of water, but the Shropshire Union Canal as well.
The breach meant the Llangollen Canal was struggling to maintain an adequate feed to the Shropshire Union, Keith Gudgin reports.
It in fact the lack of water closing the Shropshire Union Canal as its levels could not be maintained.
This resulted in very low water levels between Bunbury and Beeston Iron locks, and the waterway being closed to navigation until water levels rise.
But now, Canal & River Trust confirm that levels have risen enough to open the canal for navigation.
Ouse
Naburn Large Lock (pictured) on the Ouse that was closed owing to water in the electrics has also had engineers on site.
They have been successful is discovering the problem that has now been rectified with the navigation restored.
Trent
Newark Town Lock on the Trent that was closed to navigation due to an electrical fault, has also been repaired.
The lock is now working and the navigation reopened.
