A DESIGN HAS BEEN CHOSEN to repair the breach on the Whitchurch Arm of the Llangollen Canal.
This occurred on the 22nd December, Keith Gudgin reports.
Rebuild the embankment
This design will use a reinforced soil slope with geogrids and granular materials to rebuild the embankment.
The trust's engineers, together with consultants and specialists, are finalising the design so construction can begin as soon as possible.
In the meantime, contractors are continuing constructing an access road over the farm land to the site of the breach so that equipment and materials can be taken to the site.
The the water from the flooded field next to the breach has been pumped into an adjacent foul sewer and a fish rescue took place as the water level were lowered.
Maintain water levels
In the meantime the canal water is being pumped past the breach to maintain water levels and supply Hurleston Reservoir.
There is no intimation how long the work will take and the arm reopened.
