IT WAS just a week ago that the New Junction Canal Low Lane Swing Bridge failed and was repaired.

LowLaneSwingBridgeBut it failed again yesterday, Wednesday, Keith Gudgin reports.

The failure on July 17th  we were informed was caused by an electrical fault, with the latest failure being blamed on the same fault recurring.

We are told that it had wanted an additional part that they had not included, hence the further failure. The last time this Swing Bridge failed was on the 3rd of June last year caused by a fault on the pedestal.

This time however boaters have the opportunity to use the swing bridge at 10am and 2pm as an assisted passage.

Marsworth Flight

Another navigation that is subject to limited opening hours is the Marsworth Flight on the Grand Union Canal. The flight was closed due, we were told, to a damaged lock gate causing failure of Lock 44. This closing the whole flight.

However, assisted passage is at present arranged between the hours of 9am and noon.  At all other times there will be no access to the flight.
