THERE ARE DOUBTS ABOUT the out of order Penkridge Lock 38 being repaired in time for Easter.

Penkridge WharfFor this Staffs & Worcs Canal lock has been out of action since late last December, Keith Gudgin reports.

However, we are told that this week has seen some good progress on site, with the culvert team having successfully cut their way through all the obstructions on the line of the culvert, and have successfully passed a camera all the way through the whole culvert.

Jetting work next week

Adding that there is further jetting work to do next week to enlarge the 'hole' to allow the culvert liner to pass through at the required size. The liner has been designed and ordered, and the trust is hoping for an installation date in the very near future.

The good weather has also allowed some brickwork repairs to the bridge parapet using lime mortar, which is to work sympathetically with the existing bricks and stone copings and in recognition of their being part of the local conservation area.

The restriction on the use of Filance Lock also remains in place until further notice.
