THE Canal & River Trust state that an Erewash Canal pound is low in water so is closed between two locks.
This, it adds, is because a lock gate has been left open, Keith Gudgin reports.
Makes no difference
However as boaters know, they open gates to enter and exit locks, which makes no difference to the level of the water in the pound. As of course the remaining closed lock stops water escaping.
The low pound is between Dockholme Lock 62 and Sandiacre Lock 63, and we are told it is filling very slowly, as obviously the water is leaking somewhere—and certainly not through a closed lock, unless it is itself badly leaking.
The trust gives the cause as vandalism!
