BOATERS OFTEN get strange stoppage notices, but there was a very strange one concerning the Ouse.
It telling there is a 'sunken obstacle', Keith Gudgin reports.
But even stranger it goes on to tell it is at What3words location ///foil.rubble.spare! For those that use this method.
We discover that the 'obstacle' is in fact a tree that had been uprooted in the recent strong winds and was blocking the waterway.
Using the 'three words' location is a new one, but this particular one further confuses as there are two navigable rivers named Ouse.
No intimation
One in Yorkshire and one in Northamptonshire. But no intimation of which one it is.
The problem however starts at Millennium Bridge that may give a clue to those in the know. But again, unusually, no end point given.
However the notice tells it is causing problems to navigation, but not told if the river is blocked to navigation or is open.
Hopefully this is not a indication of such future notices.
