THE BAD NEWS ON CLOSURES still keeps coming with the notice that Heartbreak Hill could be closed if no significant rainfall.
These are the locks from the West portal of Harecastle Tunnel to Middlewich, Keith Gudgin reports.
Including locks 41 to 71 that could be all closed to navigation on the 25th July should there not be enough rainfall.
The trust tells—'We hope that this notice allows time for boaters to adjust their plans and relocate as needed. If we can offer any windows at all for passage, then we will advise accordingly. Where local water levels permit, cruising within the long pounds between lock flights may still be possible'.
Rochdale Canal
The section between Lock 5 and Lock 16 on the Rochdale are closed, this is in addition to locks 1 to 4 that are also closed as a further leak on the bywash has been discovered.
These closures are in addition to the closure of locks 48 to 83 that is due to the dry weather. All in all, this is most of the Rochdale Canal.
Oxford Canal
The South Oxford Canal between Napton and Marston Doles could be closed on the 21st of July, the trust believing this is how long the water will be sufficient for navigation without significant rainfall.
This stoppage starts at Lock 8, Napton Bottom Lock and ends at Lock 16, Marston Doles Top Lock.
All in all, this Saturday must be the worst ever day for the report of closures.
