THE CHEDDLETON LOCKS on the Caldon Canal are now closed to navigation.
This closes the access to its terminus at Froghall and prevents boats leaving, Keith Gudgin reports.
This is due to low water levels in the pound with not enough water to refill it.
Going into the river
The reason was discovered by the trust to be that the water that was directed into the affected pound is quickly lost, it going into the river.
This is an unsustainable and inefficient use of the limited water resources, so the Cheddleton Locks have been closed to navigation.
