THERE WERE TWO WOMEN who had to be rescued from the Trent at Gunthorpe Lock on Tuesday.
Unconscious
With one of the women unconscious after getting into trouble in the river, reports Janet Friend.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service told it went to Gunthorpe Lock on the Trent in the afternoon of Tuesday after receiving reports of two women in trouble struggling in the water.
When they arrived they could see one woman in the river, with the firefighters entering the water bringing her back to safety.
Then they were told there was a second woman in the river, so an inflatable boat was deployed to search and she was discovered unconscious.
Brought out of river
She was brought out of the river and after treatment from East Midlands Ambulance Service she gained consciousness.
Chris Navin from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service explained:
"Open water may look calm, especially late at night, but it can also be unpredictable. We advise that when around any type of water, you are aware of your surroundings and don't go too close to the edge.
"If you see someone in trouble in water, never go in after them. Call 999, give them your exact location, and leave it to the professionals—this way, you're not risking your own life too."
