THAT'S THE ORDER from Canal & River Trust to the boaters in Bugsworth Basin.

And get out today as it is told it will be closed this evening, Thursday, Keith Gudgin reports.

And will not be reviewed for two weeks until the 15th August. The trust give the reason as being low water levels.

Yet it is difficult to understand that boats should be cleared out of the basin, as this is just an half mile long arm and part of a 21 miles pound that stretches to Marple Flight on the Peak Forest Canal and the Bosley Flight on the Macclesfield Canal.

There is no lock, so how this will help the trust to 'manage the remaining supplies to keep the Peak Forest Canal in water and protect the canal network, its infrastructure, and the surrounding ecology' is not known.

Still in the same pound

If boats move out of the arm onto either of the two waterways they are still in the same pound!  And doubts as to whether or not the two flights are open to allow them off the pound.

The boaters have to get out as stop planks (that always leak) will be installed early at the basin entrance on Friday morning. The images show the middle basin with our boat in the image below.
