NAVIGATION ON THE STORT has been halted with locks chained-up.

This is the first time a river has been closed through lack of water, Keith Gudgin reports.

Brick Lock 14 and Lower Lock 15 have both been chained-up to prevent navigation on the river.

The trust tell that it is experiencing low levels on the Stort, and to try and raise levels it has added tarpaulins to the top gates and chained the paddles.

TodmordenGuillotineIt adds that once levels are stabilised it will make an assessment as to either opening or keeping the river closed to navigation, but tells boater to avoid mooring in between Brick Lock and Lower Lock until levels have stabilised.

Rochdale Canal

Todmorden Guillotine Lock (pictured) on the Rochdale Canal has still not been repaired, as parts are needed to undertake the repair.

The trust telling that once the design has been approved scaffolding should be going up to start the works.

However the contractors are still working on the Guillotine Lock at Salterhebble, but once finished there they will move onto the repairs at Todmorden.
