IT IS CERTAINLY A CASE OF slowly does it in the repair of Todmorden Guillotine Lock 19 on the Rochdale Canal.

It was on the 17th June that the lock broke, with our then being told on the 20th June that engineers had inspected and assessed the condition of the lock mechanism and have concluded that works are needed to ensure it can be safely operated.

TodmordenGuillotineContinue to plan

Then on the 4th July we were informed that the engineering team continue to plan these essential repairs and obtain the parts needed to do this.

Then it was still nearly four weeks later we were at last told told the engineers had discovered the fault and were planning to start work on this lock on Monday (of course) the 11th August, and anticipate the works will take approximately three weeks, finishing on Friday (of course) the 22nd August.

Taking over two months

So three weeks to wait, it taking over two months altogether to repair.

But alas not much boat traffic as the Rochdale has extended closures through lack of water.
