A LOCK AND A SWING BRIDGE have failed on the Kennet & Avon Canal.
Colthrop Lock 91 and Bulls Swing Bridge 48 have both closed, Keith Gudgin reports.
Colthrop Lock has sustained damage to the collar and is currently inoperable, but a team has been sent to the site to inspect.
Bulls Swing Bridge
Bulls Swing Bridge has failed, with a critical component supporting the swing bridge and enabling its movement having suffered a mechanical failure.
The bridge is now currently inoperable, it being now positioned at an angle across the navigation, obstructing passage for both waterborne and vehicular traffic.
It is expected that the navigation will remain closed throughout the weekend.
Completely closed
On the 11th of July we were informed that the the Kennet & Avon was completely closed.
This was of through lack of water with of course the Caen Hill Flight closed and others also closed.
