MOST SURPRISINGLY, Derwent Mouth Lock is closed through lack of water.

This is the broad lock at the start of the eastern end of the Trent & Mersey Canal, Keith Gudgin reports.

Surprisingly, as this is the last lock supplied by water from the Trent at Alrewas, none of which have suffered lack of water to our knowledge, especially as being fed by water from the Coventry, Staffs & Worcs and even the Caldon that drains into the Trent & Mersey Canal.

Low water levels

But Canal & River Trust tell that due to low water levels boaters are asked not to enter or leave this section of the Trent & Mersey Canal at Derwent Mouth Lock whilst levels recover.

But alas, there is much leakage from the locks on this section, especially the broad ones up to Stenson.  And even from the Derwent Mouth Lock itself, as can be seen from the picture above.  And the bottom gates also leak as can be seen below!
