MANY PEOPLE who have booked canal holidays over this Bank Holiday have either to accept shortened cruises or move to a location where there is water, or cancel.
This is leaving large hire companies offering customers transfers to other locations but warning that the route could be closed through lack of water, and we are told many are cancelling.
Short cruises
The smaller hire firms are attempting to stay in business by offering short cruises at lower cost, with the Leeds & Liverpool Canal being a good example, it allowing cruising between some of the closed flights.
We are hearing of restoration sociaties that have had to cancel its trip boats owing to low water levels.
As to boaters, a number have contacted us to tell that they dare not risk going from their moorings in case they are stuck out somewhere caused by even more closures.
Victor
Many are telling that Victor had it right as hot summers in the past did not have such an effect, and it's not lack of rain causing stoppages but poor management decisions.
