TWO MORE BRIDGES had their barriers broken by vehicles yesterday.
Shirley Drawbridge 8 (pictured) on the North Stratford and Handcocks Swing Bridge 9 on the Leeds & Liverpool, Keith Gudgin reports.
Both of course costing money to repair as well as closing navigations.
Yet it was last year that Canal & River Trust proposed to have cameras on such bridges so that the culprits could then be charged for the repairs.
The bridges with barriers obviously have power, that could be used to activate a camera as a vehicle passes by and if timed would be easily to trace the incident.
But nothing has happened and the trust still have to stand the cost of repairs.
The navigation is closed at each of these bridges and contractors have been informed.
