A BOATER HAS ASKED why in this time of acute water shortage is it being wasted in Chester on the Shropshire Union?

He asking Canal & River Trust:

ChesterOverflowingPlease could you explain why there is a constant flow of water coming over the gates in Chester going back into the river Dee and why it can’t be let across the Middlewich Branch to feed Middlewich which you are about to close.

I’ve spoken with ex British Waterways staff about this and they agree it’s nonsense—I expect a clear explanation for this as I’ve absolutely no confidence or trust in the Northwest's Region of Canal & River Trust.

I could put money that the only reason CRT [they] are closing Middlewich locks on Thursday is to stop boat movement to make their lives easier. There is no need to close the locks.

Water is constantly coming over the lock gates going back into the  Dee.

If I empty the lock it fills again within an hour. Meaning 24 barge locks of water are going back into to the Dee in a 24 hour period.

Why is none of this water from the  Llangollen and the higher Shroppie being sent to Middlewich across the branch instead of being sent to Chester and back in to the Dee?

The northwest team are out of order.
