WHILST FOXTON FLIGHT is closed repair work is being carried out on the paddles on the locks.
The flight being closed through lack of water. Janet Friend reports.
Closed en end of July
The locks were closed on the 29th July with a safety fence being erected around the area.
But now Canal & River Trust tell it is taking the opportunity to bring forward some vital planned repair works to minimise future disruption for boaters and local businesses.
Its teams will be replacing the paddles on locks 10 and 17, with the side ponds being drained, with Adam Comerford, national hydrology manager at the trust, explaining:
"In terms of reopening we really do need sustained rain, probably for weeks rather than days, to get our water resource position back up to sufficient holding in our reservoirs and sufficient levels in our canals to be able to reopen to boating."
Winter work
The work was originally to be part of the winter work that the trust carries out. Picture by Canal & River Trust.
Harborough District Council has supported the Trust with a £10,000 contribution from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
