A PLANNED STOPPAGE HAS had to be cancelled by Canal & River Trust.
Cannot take heavy equipment
Permission has been refused to take its heavy equipment over a gas main, Keith Gudgin reports.
The firm Cadent will not allow the trust to take its heavy equipment to cross a gas main to attend to the stoppage on Lock 88 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
As a result, the works are currently on hold until the issue can be resolved.
The work was to repair a paddle on the lock, with the trust also telling that due to the size of the lock, the trust will require a little longer to drain the lock and complete the repair so will be undertaking the work in the winter months to try and minimise customer impact.
Strange closure dates
It then states the closure in from 15th December to the 12th December!
It is assumed the lock is closed to navigation.
Work on Lock 88 was schedulled to take place the 17th November.
