That too was 'regularly inspected' but had trees growing through its solid embankment (pictured) that clearly showed it was not regularly inspected as the subsequent inquiry clearly showed.

As the embankment gave way and needed a helicopter to fill the void.

As the long established owners of narrowboats are aware, it was the lengthsmen who patrolled and inspected the canals, who were all stopped when the trust took over.

Dams installed

The area of the breach has had dams installed at each side, stopping the water draining away.

However, repair of the breach and reopening of the canal is likely to be a matter of months, according to the trust.
