THERE WERE TWO MORE STOPPAGES yesterday, Thursday, closing navigations.
These were on the Leeds & Liverpool and Rochdale canals, Keith Gudgin reports.
It was the failure of New Lane Swing Bridge 1 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal that closed the navigation.
It was closed owing to the swing bridge having an electrical fault, but the trust's specialist team is to attend. (Picture by penninewaterways.co.uk.)
Rochdale Canal
The navigation closure on the Rochdale Canal is caused by the towpath side head paddle having a problem with its gearing mechanism.
The guillotine gate has been turned off, with boaters told not to attempt to use it until it is repaired.
Again a team is attending and assessing the fault to see what repairs are required.
