THE GLASSON BRANCH of the Lancaster Canal is still closed as no paddles are available for Lock 4.
The original paddles on the lock are no longer usable, Keith Gudgin reports.
The paddles on the lock have deteriorated with the trust telling that the towpath side bottom gate paddle is rotten and now inoperable.
The problem is that the paddle is of a unique design and has to be produced and delivery is taking longer than anticipated.
So the navigation is closed until the paddle can be delivered.
Hertford Union closed
The Hertford Union Canal is closed due to an obstruction preventing a gate from fully closing on the Middle Lock.
This means the water in the bottom pound will have to be lowered to allow access to the obstruction, with boats moored in the pound having to vacate by 8am on Monday 9th February.
