WHILST JETTING OUT THE culvert discovered under the Penkridge Lock a further blockage has been discovered.

Which means the stoppage at this Staffs & Worcs lock will take longer to complete, Keith Gudgin reports.

Preventing progress

This new blockage is across the original line of the culvert and is preventing progress on preparing the new culvert to accept a liner.

This blockage consists of brickwork approximately 4 × 3 metres in size.

Attempts to cut through the blockage using jetting from within the culvert has only been partially successful.

No equipment

So specialist contractors with demolition and remote access capability have been consulted, but there is currently no equipment small enough to operate within the culvert.

So all is at a standstill until a solution can be discovered.
