THE ON-GOING STOPPAGE at Penkridge Lock on the Staffs & Worcs Canal is still causing problems.

Penkridge WharfThis is where there is a blockage in a culvert that is impossible to reach only by going under a road, which means it being closed.

Evacuation has commenced but to find yet another road surface, then still more problems with having to safeguard all the services under the road.

4m below surface

But the culvert is 4m below the surface and there is only a small opening, that now needs a safe method of supporting the sides of the excavation to prevent collapse.

So a design has been created that provides a safe means of access for workers to excavate and work within a confined area to remove the blockage.

The trust tell that despite the challenges and constraints experienced, we do not foresee the need to change the completion date, which still remains as the 1st May, unless we experience any unforeseen risks.
