CANAL & RIVER TRUST tell that stoppages have now been 'completed'.

With works completed and navigations reopened, Keith Gudgin reports.

Stort Navigation

The off-side ground paddle on Latton Lock 9 on the river had become disconnected, causing slow operation of the lock and stop planks needed to empty the lock of water to complete the inspection. This has been repaired.

It was the connections of the paddle that had failed.

Walsall Canal

Once again it was a broken paddle on Lock 5 that had closed the Walsall Canal.

But this time there was no intimation what caused the breakage, only that it occurred on the 25th April.

The repair however has been completed and navigation is open again.

Wyrley & Essington Canal

It was pollution that closed the Wyrley & Essington Canal on the 13th March.

Booms had to be used along the canal to help limit the spread of the pollution.

But all is now cleared and the navigation reopened. It is not told from where the pollution originated.
