THERE WERE THREE STOPPAGES yesterday, Wednesday, all closing the navigations.

The three were on the Kennet & Avon Canal, the Chesterfield Canal and the Peak Forest Canal, Keith Gudgin reports.

Kennet & Avon

On the Kennet & Avon Aldermaston Lock 95 has suffered a broken lock collar, with the information from Canal & River Trust that its teams are currently working on the repair strategy.

Chesterfield Canal

The  Chesterfield Canal has damage to Shireoaks Bottom Lock  44.

The damage is to a paddle which is now stuck in the up position and has become jammed. Using the lock with the paddle in this position would drain the pound above.

We are told that operatives will be on site today, Thursday, and hope to carry out a repair.

Peak Forest Canal

The third navigation closure yesterday is on the Peak Forest Canal with its Stanley Lift Bridge 1 out of action.

This is due to an operating fault. And once again the trust's local team have been informed and will attend site today.

So hopefully all these three stoppages should be attended to quickly and the navigations reopened.
