It is now a month since a gate failed on the Anderton Boat Lift.
Stuck
As this occurred on the 3rd January it means the boaters have been stuck for over a month, with the only advice from the trust being for those on the Weaver to use the Manchester Ship Canal.
Those on the Trent & Mersey had no advice, their only alternative to get to their mooring on the river being by the Bridgewater Canal then they too using the Manchester Ship Canal, that many don't really care for.
As to when these broken gates will eventually be repaired is not stated, the first date given having long passed.
Gates failed
When the lift was originally reopened after its new build, the band played and the flutterfetti exploded and the people clapped at the wonderful achievement, and then with the Press—us included—were taken up on a boat for a trip on the Trent & Mersey but those very same gates then failed, so down it went with no trip. And still they fail.
Meanwhile the boaters wait in the freezing weather...
