IT WAS ON the 24th January that the New Lane Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal was closed to navigation.

It was told that a damaged barrier was the problem, Keith Gudgin reported.

New barrier required

We were first told that a new barrier would be required, and once it was delivered the contractors would arrange to attend to install the barrier.

But alas its delivery was delayed. Then we were advised that there was a problem with the transportation vehicle for the new barrier, so it was further delayed.

This week there is still a delay owing to the ongoing problem with the vehicle that is required for the transportation of the new barrier.

So two and half weeks later we are still told the problem is with the vehicle and that it cannot transport the bridge. But no reason why it cannot.
