IT NEEDED the Leicester Fire & Rescue Service to rescue a pony that was unable to get out of the Ashby Canal.

But the firefighters from Market Bosworth soon had it under control, Janet Friend reports.

Trapped in the water

The Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service told it was on Sunday that he became trapped in the water.

They had specialist equipment for the job in the form of an inflatable rescue path, slide sheets and farm machinery to get the pony out of the canal, that all went to plan, with the exhausted pony back on dry land.

The fire service, that provided the photograph, told that Brandy was 'recovering well from his ordeal' after he was taken back to his nearby stable, well rubbed-down by his owner and examined by a local vet.
