FOR THE FIRST TIME in any season, the famous Five Rise Flight at Bingley is closed.
This followed by the Three Rise at Bingley, both on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, also closed, Keith Gudgin reports.
These two lock flights were closed yesterday, Wednesday with no intimation when they will reopen or even if restricted working will come into force.
Two more flights have restrictions
Marple Lock Flight on the Peak Forest Canal is closed but has restricted opening on Saturdays only.
Bosley Lock Flight on the Macclesfield Canal—open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Open from 8:30am to allow passage through the flight.
Last boat entry to the flight will be at 1pm, and all boats must have exited the flight by 4pm.
Leeds & Liverpool and Huddersfield Narrow
Of course the lock flights on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal are all closed to navigation, with the Huddersfield Narrow Canal completely closed from end to end.
With so many other stoppages on the system is really seems it is closing down, as water shortage takes over.
It really is a terrible situation not only for would-be boaters but the hire companies that have to suffer with their boats and crews being marooned.
