SALTERHEBBLE LOCK 3 on the Calder & Hebble Navigation has been repaired.

SalterhebbleLockIt is now reopened for navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.

It was because of safety concerns that the lock was closed and navigation suspended whilst engineers carried out an 'in-depth inspection and assessment' of the lock mechanism.

But it was not told what problems were discovered since it was closed on the 17th June six weeks ago.

However, it is once again open for navigation yesterday 7th August.

Our simply being told that the trust is pleased to confirm that work on the Salterhebble Guillotine Lock has now been completed and it is now open for passage.

Sileby Lock repaired

Sileby Lock 49 on the Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal has been repaired, the navigation now being reopened.

However as that part of the Grand Union is closed there is no through route through the repaired lock, only within the pounds.

The repairs were to a lock paddle that broke on the 10th April, but there were problems getting a crane boat to the site that caused the long delay in reopening.
