IT WAS EXPECTED to open Minworth and Curdworth flights on the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal today, Saturday, but this has been cancelled.

The reason is that there is an emergency closure following the collapse of a third-party bridge, which is blocking the navigation, Keith Gudin reports..

The canal had been closed due to low water caused by the pumps serving the flights overheating and needing repair, which had been undertaken with sufficient water pumped to open the navigation today.

Stopped reopening

The collapse of the bridge has stopped the opening on the flights. as the collapsed bridge is blocking the navigation east of Salford Junction.

The flights should reopen once the remains of the bridge have been removed.
