THE SHROPSHIRE UNION CANAL is still closed beyond Chester due to a leak discovered on the 17th of July.
This was between Knowles Bridge 131 and Backford Bridge 133 with a culvert collapsing, Keith Gudgin reports.
With our being told that based on similar culvert repairs, the estimated duration of the works is 12 weeks, potentially slightly longer.
Water level risen
Following the repositioning of the dams closer to the work area the water levels have risen, thus allowing boats that were on the bottom to float, and with another pump expected to be installed the level should rise even further.
But boaters are asked by the trust to keep their mooring ropes slack to allow for any fluctuation in the water level.
In addition to the navigation being closed the towpath is also closed along the area.
