THERE IS NOW NO ACCESS to or from the Ripon Marina.
As the Environment Agency has instructed Canal & River Trust to stop abstracting water from the river to feed the Ripon Canal, Keith Gudgin reports.
It blames low rainfall for its decision to close Oxclose Lock to navigation to reduce water use, but this cuts the Ripon Marina (pictured} off from the system.
Abstraction may resume
The trust will provide an update on passage through Oxclose Lock once the Skell levels return to normal and the Environment Agency confirms abstraction may resume.
All too often this occurs when rainfall is low, with the moorers either being stuck in the marina or unable to get back. At one time there was a long stoppage whilst the lock was being repaired.
