THE COLLAPSED CABLE BRIDGE over the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal is having an effect on navigation.

It was on the 18th August that the bridge collapsed, closing the navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.

Unable to take place

There was to be an attempt to lift the bridge from the navigation over the weekend, but this was unable to take place 'owing to unforeseen logistical challenges', we are told.

This, it seems, was that the crane that is needed to lift the bridge could not get access to the site.

National Grid are now attempting to provide an alternative solution that involves installing a scaffold structure in the actual canal.

This, it is understood, would allow the bridge to be dismantled and lowered onto the scaffold for safe removal.

Approximately one month

But the estimated time-frame for the removal of the bridge is now approximately one month.

This of course is out of the hands of the trust.
