TWO BRIDGES THAT WERE out of action for boaters have been repaired.

These two mechanical bridges had their barriers smashed, Keith Gudgin reports.

Handcocks Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal was closed as its barriers had been broken, but these have been replaced and the navigation reopened.

The contractors quickly sourced new barriers and they were fitted.

North Stratford Canal

Shirley Drawbridge on the North Stratford Canal also had its barriers smashed by a vehicle it was stated.

This too has had new barriers fixed, with the drawbridge now open to boaters.

Also in the notice from Canal & River Trust it is told that this was caused by 'vandalism'!  We thought that excuse was no longer used, but it still is, but somewhat strange telling it was a vehicle and vandals!
