TOOLEY'S BOATYARD on the the Oxford Canal, in Banbury, could be forced to close after losing 80% of its business.
This boatyard, is recognised as the oldest working boatyard in the country, Janet Friend reports.
But the Canal & River Trust could no longer keep the Oxford Canal open through Banbury and closed it in August.
Thus leaving the boatyard unable to either take in work or allow completed jobs to leave, that all of course use the waterway.
Matthew Armitage, Tooley's managing director, told the BBC:
"The lack of water has meant the locks have closed either side of us, and this has meant that the boats cannot get to our business.
"Because we are a dry dock the boats have to travel to us to get the work done, so its a bit like taking your car to the garage, but they can't get there because the roads are all closed."
The trust closed the pounds from Claydon to Aynho on the Oxford Canal, with Tooley's completely trapped and unable to work. Making it worse that it tells there will be no update until the end of September.
Leaving the boatyard in a most precarious position with it's manager very concerned about weathering so many months without work.
