THE BOATS MOORED on the Aylesbury Arm of the Grand Union Canal have been stuck there since 16th June.

aylesbury basin3When it was closed by the Canal & River Trust due to low water level.

Whilst many are stuck in the arm according to the Aylesbury Canal Society others are not able to leave the dry dock.

Businesses too are suffering, yet with no end of the closure in sight.

Nick Coolican-Smith, the chairman of the Aylesbury Canal Society, explains:

"We've lost probably tens of thousands in boat cancellations, about a dozen dock bookings cancelled or postponed, and then the ripple effect to guys who come and work here on the boats or paint the boats.

"A lot of people's holidays have gone out the window. A lot of people trying to get their boats back from holiday and are stuck in various places."

There are rows of boats stuck on the bottom of the canal on the Aylesbury Arm leaning over, with nothing that anyone can do, just stuck there indefinitely. The image was taken when we visited the basin in happier times!
